Welcome to Geography 7!

Get ready for an exciting year of exploration and discovery, as this year we will be continuing the study of the world that you began in 6th grade. (Well, actually, you've been studying the world all of your lives, but this will be a little more focused on the geographic aspects . ) While you studied the countries and cultures of North and South America last year, this year we will be traveling eastward, crossing over the Atlantic into the Eastern Hemisphere. There, we will study Europe, Northern Eurasia, the Middle East and Northern Africa, and finally, South Asia.

As with any trip you take, you will first need to pack your bags and prepare. We will begin by learning about the Five Themes of Geography. These themes are simply a way of organizing what we learn about different parts of the world to help us remember them and get the most out of our trip. Our planning will also include a study of what makes up a country and a culture. We will look at various government and economic systems and the philosophies behind them, including our own. We will even create our own country, and participate in a trading session between those countries!

Be sure you are prepared for our travels this year by enjoying your summer and getting ready to share with us details about some of the places you have traveled to in your journey through life. During the first week of school you will need to share with us a postcard or picture of someplace you have visited and tell us about your adventures. So that you can make it really exciting and interesting for us, I'd recommend you start looking for postcards or pictures now.
